Jeff Koons x Burton: The Philosopher
2014-2016
Metalized foil, screen print, snowboard
151 centimeters high
Edition of 50 plus 20 APs
-
Burton founder Jake Burton and Jeff Koons collaborated on the design of a limited edition snowboard titled The Philosopher. Featuring visual graphics created by Jeff Koons and technical aspects designed by Jake Burton, The Philosopher was crafted by hand at Burton Headquarters in Vermont where only 50 of the limited-edition snowboards were produced. Koons's design features the largest foil stamps ever to be used as part of a snowboard graphic.
All proceeds from sales of The Philosopher benefited The Chill Foundation, the charity organization founded by Jake and Donna Carpenter that inspires youth to overcome challenges through boardsports.

Jeff Koons x Google: Live Case
2016
A limited edition Jeff Koons Google Live Case
-
Jeff Koons collaborated with Google to create the limited edition Jeff Koons Live Case. Koons created three Live Case designs for Google’s Nexus 6P and 5X phones, each featuring a sculpture from his Gazing Ball series: Gazing Ball (Diana), Gazing Ball (Mailbox), and Gazing Ball (Antinous-Dionysus).
For the Live Wallpaper—a unique feature included with the case—Koons directed and produced his first ever live-action video piece: A classical rendition of the ballet Swan Lake featuring a blue gazing ball. The interactive wallpaper displays a still image of two dancers poised on a set designed by Koons. When the screen is tapped, the dancers perform a short choreography sequence from the ballet before returning to a resting position. There are twenty-eight sequences, all of which have been selected and edited by Koons, which rotate daily in a continuous cycle. This Gazing Ball Ballet was the first interactive wallpaper of this nature ever created.

Jeff Koons x Acute Art
Phyrne
2017
VR video, color, sound, indefinite duration
-
Phyrne is a virtual reality work produced in collaboration with Acute Art, which translates Koons’s sculpture, Seated Ballerina, into a moving ballerina, set in an imagined landscape. Phryne greets viewers in an idealized garden, dancing a trail through verdant trees and hedges lined with flowers. Phyrne conveys grace and harmony – her movements based on those of a real dancer from the New York Ballet.
“I used Phryne’s metallic surface to bring the affirmation of self into VR. You can see your reflection within her. She affirms that your presence is real, that you exist.’ Without this, Koons adds, VR can lack a sense of center: ‘You look down at your feet and there’s nothing there – so there’s a lot to be said about defining your own presence.” –Jeff Koons

58 5/8 x 21 5/8 x 30 1/8 inches
148.9 x 54.9 x 76.5 cm
-
Donated to J/P HRO Haiti Benefit, now CORE, in January 2014, Uli was made from Sean Penn’s gun collection, consisting of 62 guns and accessory parts.
Over 60 firearms were rendered inactive and used in the creation of this unique artwork. The firearms being offered for decommission were from personal collection of Sean Penn as well as those previously owned by his late brother, actor Christopher Penn. This collection included assault rifles, shotguns, semi-automatic pistols, revolvers and over 100 ammunition magazines.
As witnessed in Haiti after a dramatic reduction in gun violence following a 2004 UN disarmament program, these weapons were contributed in solidarity with a global recognition that peace and security are best served by the peaceful.

“Uli” (2014-2020) was made from Sean Penn’s gun collection, consisting of 62 guns and accessory parts. Sean informed me that he wanted to decommission his gun collection, and asked if I would have any interest in creating an artwork out of his guns. I told him, “Absolutely,” and the Uli sculpture was created out of gunmetal. Uli figures are normally made out of wood, and they represent the maternal and paternal spirit of tribal leaders.”
